After sharing My Experience with Hashimoto’s, I started thinking about how overwhelming Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis can be. From diagnosis to treatment, there are so many decisions to be made. Without the right resources this can cause some to feel hopeless about their ability to feel better.

When I received a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s in 2015 I began to research as much as possible to learn everything that I could about this condition. With this post I want to share with you what I have found to be helpful in understanding more about Hashimoto’s diagnosis and treatment. Hopefully, this will help you to feel less overwhelmed with how to cope with this condition. Ultimately, I would love for you to feel empowered and able to take action.

Finding a Practitioner

Dietitian & Certified LEAP Therapist: I mentioned in my previous post that I sought help from a Registered and Licensed Dietitian & Certified LEAP Therapist. To say the least, she was and is amazing. This link provides detailed professional listings for Certified LEAP Therapist Nutritionists and Dietitians in the United States: https://www.healthprofs.com/us/nutritionists-dietitians/certified-leap-therapist

The following site provides more information about LEAP (Lifestyle Eating and Performance), which is the food sensitivity eating plan that I followed: https://nowleap.com/leap/

Functional Medicine Practitioner: Functional medicine doctors aim to identify and address the root causes of disease, not just the symptoms. Functional medicine focuses on finding the underlying cause of a patient’s health problems, as well as disease prevention, through a variety of ways:

  • nutrition, diet, and exercise
  • use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques
  • prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, herbs, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, sleep analysis or stress-management techniques like meditation.

The Find A Practitioner tool is the largest referral network in Functional Medicine, created to help patients locate Functional Medicine practitioners anywhere in the world: https://www.ifm.org/find-a-practitioner/

Other Ways to Find a Practitioner in Your Area: Not all doctors that can help are on this list (my doctor is not). So, you may have to do some research.

Option 1: You can search by googling “your city” + functional medicine (for example:  Springboro functional medicine) or “your city” + integrative medicine (for example: Springboro integrative medicine)

Option 2: In the search bar of google enter “your city” +  your condition (for example: Springboro Hashimoto’s)

Option 3: Neighborhood Facebook groups and local Mom Facebook Group’s can also be great resources.

Note: With any physician you consider make sure to read reviews, call to ask about how appointments work, the costs, and available testing. Many functional medicine and integrative practitioners do not accept insurance, so it is important to know about the costs ahead of time.

I hope these resources are helpful to you. Please share the goodness and pin it or share on Instagram and hashtag it #tonsofgoodness. Thank you!
